1964 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2


The Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 was introduced in early 1964 as a successor to the 250 GTE. The 330 was a totally new design and one of its most distinguishing features was its sharper nose with quad headlights. The car’s wheelbase was 50mm longer than its predecessor and it had an improved braking system and suspension. The 330’s engine was of 4.0 litre capacity generating a claimed 300hp. This was a significant improvement of the 250 GTE’s 3.0 litre engine which generated a claimed 240hp.

Being able to seat four in relative comfort and yet providing the performance, handling and looks expected of a Ferrari, the 330 GT 2+2 was a very successful car in period with circa 1,000 cars built from 1964 – 1967. Of this 503 were the original Series 1 cars.

We are delighted to offer a matching numbers 1964 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Series 1. This euro spec car was sold new into Switzerland. Not much is known of its early history, however, it is believed to have been was sold into Rhodesia in the late 1960’s. The car was owned by a Mark Bennalter for many years, and he may well have imported the car. During his ownership the engine was rebuilt in ~ DATE. The car’s next owner was Malcolm Uys who used the car sparingly and in fact during his ownership the car spent the majority of its life in storage.

The car was purchased by its current owner circa 15 years ago and he recommissioned the car mechanically. After enjoying the car for a period of time he then had it stripped to the bare metal, had the body repaired where necessary and repainted. At the time he also had the interior redone. When he purchased the car it was finished in grey and he decided to repaint it in grey/blue. The interior was re-trimmed in black leather with blue carpets.

The current owner emigrated from Zimbabwe some X years ago and it wasn’t until 2008 that he was able to bring the car to Australia. As the car has been in storage for many years he again had to recommission it. This work has been completed progressively and included the brakes (master cylinder, servo, callipers and discs), front suspension bushes, the steering box, distributors and carburettors. Some minor oil leaks were attended to and the car has been serviced.

The heart of any Ferrari is its engine and this V12 has good oil pressure, excellent power and sounds fabulous! This car drives brilliantly and it’s tight on the road with no rattles or squeaks. Cosmetically, the paintwork has some blemishes and a new owner may chose to have it repainted, however, the car presents well and could most certainly be enjoyed as is for many years to come. The panel gaps are all really good as is the glass and chrome, save for the Borrani wheel spinners which could benefit from a re-chrome. The interior is lovely and importantly everything looks to be correct on the car.

The car has a good history file, books and a tool roll (which is partially complete).

The value of many 1960’s Ferraris have skyrocketed in recent times and the Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 remains one of the more relatively affordable period front engine V12 Ferraris available. But for how long?
