1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider

Details

The 1950’s Giulietta Sprint was Alfa Romeo’s first attempt at manufacturing a
sports coupe that would be produced in significant numbers. Today the Giulietta
Sprint is regarded as one of the finest designs to come from Bertone, which is
interesting as it was Pininfarina that was given the job of designing the
Giulietta Spider which reached production less than twelve months after the
coupe was released. As testament to the success of this model the car was in
production for circa a decade from 1955 through until 1965  and today both
Giulietta models cars are becoming highly collectible. The car is both elegant
yet purposeful and the 1300cc engine was powerful enough to propel the car to a
top speed of approx 165 km/hr.

We are delighted to offer a 1960 Giulietta Spider, chassis number AR1495 09084 and
engine number AR1315*013385* that has been confirmed by Storica Alfa
Romeo as a matching numbers car.

According to Alfa Romeo the car was manufactured on the 25th February 1960 and sold on
the 23rd March 1960 to Hoffman Motor Company, New York, in the USA.

We understand that this car has had three owners from new and was with its last
owner for approx 33 years!  Until being recently imported into Australia
the car has spent it’s entire life in Texas and and is really solid throughout.
Its condition is consistent with being in a dry environment as stated.

The car is very original, it is structurally excellent and is largely undisturbed.
It has been well looked after and appears to have been sympathetically
maintained throughout its life with work carried out as required to maintain
its condition.

The car has been ‘parked up’ since 1984, however, we’re told it was started from
time to time. Since purchasing the car we have re-commissioned it and the works
undertaken have included:

  • – general service
  • – engine clean
  • – the carburettor has been rebuilt
  • – the brakes, including the master cylinder have been rebuilt
  • – the fuel tank has been removed and repaired
  • – the seats have been repaired

The paint is tired and there are some scratches, however, it is still presentable
and more than suitable for ‘driver quality’ car. The bright work is really good
with all of the trim etc complete and in place (with the exception of the small
horizontal bars that either side of the front grill and the steering wheel
ring).  The soft top is also in good condition and the car has new tyres.

The car runs and drives well and has excellent oil pressure.

Forthe investment of some time and little money one will end up with a really nice driver quality classic Alfa Romeo that can be driven and enjoyed. Alternatively, the car is an excellent base for a concours
restoration.

The odometer reads 05141 miles.

These cars are rare in Australia and this car presents a great opportunity.
