Mercedes Benz has always had a ‘flagship model’ in their range and the 450 SEL 6.9 was just that throughout the 1970’s. The 450 SEL 6.9 succeeded the 300 SEL 6.3 and the combination of advanced technology and a thumping V8 engine proved to be a great success. The sands of time coupled with the expense of maintaining a 6.9 has resulted in many of them deteriorating badly, and really good cars are hard to find.

Oldtimer Australia has found a a true ‘diamond in the rough’ with this incredibly original and unmolested example. It’s a 1979 model, Australian delivered, fully matching numbers and it is in just fabulous original condition. Everything works and the car is a delight to drive. It even has its original first aid kit that is unopened and unused in the rear parcel shelf compartment. The car also has full service books from new and lots of original documentation.
