FOR SALE

An extremely rare Australian delivered factory right hand drive early chrome bumper De Tomaso Pantera.

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale a 1974 De Tomaso Pantera.

We have sourced the original factory records for the car which confirm a manufacture date of the 2nd February 1974. The records confirm this is a ‘matching numbers’ car that was originally delivered in ‘bianco’ (white) with a ‘nero’ (black) interior, the colour scheme of the car today. This is an extremely rare factory RHD Australian delivered De Tomaso Pantera. The car is noted as being ordered by a gentleman from Toorak (Melbourne), Victoria who we understand imported a few De Tomaso cars under the name of Auto Mondo in the early to mid 1970’s.

The car’s early history is not known, though we are currently undertaking further research. In January 1991 the car was sold from Sydney European Cars on Parramatta Rd in Haberfield, through Melbourne based classic and prestige car dealer Dutton Pty Ltd, to a Melbourne based enthusiast who amassed a significant collection of cars over a very short period of time in the early 1990’s. He sparingly, and in some cases never, used his cars and they were all stored at the Chequered Flag Stables which was a car storage facility in Moorabbin, a southern suburb of Melbourne. At the time of purchase the odometer was at 51,565 miles. He passed away some eighteen months ago and his car collection has just been sold off by his estate. Today the odometer reads 51,796 miles.

The car looks to be a GTS – it has a GTS badge on the rear, the Veglia clock in the dash in front of the passenger and reclinable seats which are all GTS features. This is a Euro spec car so it is very possible that as a GTS the car did not have flared wheel arches.

This car has been in storage and not run for in excess of 25 years and will require recommissioning. We have had a respected classic car specialist inspect the car and he confirmed that the engine turns freely by hand.

White is a fabulous colour for a Pantera and the paint work on the car is generally good. It is presentable from say a meter away but on closer inspection there are some blemishes, orange peel and the odd crack in the paint. We have removed rubber protector strips from each side of the car which unfortunately peeled some paint off on the driver’s door and has revealed a rust spot. The sill cover on the passenger’s side has split just in front of the rear wheel arch. The external trim, chrome, and the glass are in good original condition, with the exception being the rear bumper & exhaust tips that need to be re-chromed. The front De Tomaso badge is chipped.  Inside the cabin, everything looks to be incredibly original. Overall the interior is in excellent condition. All of the seats, door cards and dash are beautifully preserved. Similarly the instruments, controls and steering wheel are also crisp and clean. You sit behind the wheel and it is really like getting into a ‘time capsule’. There is even an original factory ‘Vettura In Rodaggio’ sticker on the front windscreen.

The engine bay is clean and mechanically the car looks to be have been well cared for. The air cleaner has some rust spots and could be replaced for aesthetics. There is evidence to suggest that the car has had recent mechanical works prior to being sold in 1991.

Accompanying the car are the original build sheets, including engine dyno test report, an unused space saver spare and a mint tool/jack kit.

This fabulous De Tomaso Pantera is now offered for sale for the first time in around 28 years!
