1969 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Roadster
Details
The Jaguar E-Type is arguably the greatest sports car ever built. It was announced at the March 1961 Geneva Motorshow and it took the motoring world by storm . . . the car was an absolute sensation! The body styling was simply gorgeous and technologically the E-Type was an engineering masterpiece and it set new standards in all areas.
Whilst automotive styling is somewhat subjective the E-Type is often ranked atop lists of ‘the most beautiful cars’ and in fact it has been described by Enzo Ferrari as the most beautiful car ever made. And it’s not just about the looks as the E-Type is often at the top of other lists such as ‘The best sports car ever built’ or ‘The most significant cars’. It is truly a motoring icon.
As a testament to the success of the E-Type, production evolved through three series from 1961 until 1974 during which time circa 70,000 cars were built.
Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer a stunning example of Jaguar’s iconic E-Type. Just fabulous are the words one would use to describe this 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series II 4.2 Litre Roadster!
This car is well known to Oldtimer Australia having been sold by us back in 2006 and then again to its current owner in September 2013. A change in his circumstances has resulted in this car now being offered for sale.
The Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirms this factory LHD example was manufactured 25 March 1969 with a date of dispatch of 14 May 1969. The car delivered through British Leyland, New York, USA. Importantly the car retains its original ‘matching numbers’ engine.
The car’s early history is not known. It was acquired and imported into Australia some 18 years ago by a Jaguar specialist based on the south side in Brisbane who imported a number of E-Type ‘projects’ from the USA. The car was sold in a disassembled state in 1998 to an enthusiast who completed a nut and bolt restoration of the car over a period of time. At the time was car was converted to right hand drive. Subsequently the owner took the car with him to Darwin when he was transferred there with his work, however, he was working in PNG on a FI/FO basis and as result the car was not being used. The car was sold through Oldtimer Australia back in 2006 to its previous to current owner, joining an impressive collection of classics. The car has remained in south east Queensland ever since.
During the restoration the car had a number of sympathetic modifications and improvements to make it a more usable classic.
Today the car presents and drives beautifully. In fact this car is one of the most responsive and better performing E-Types we have had the pleasure to drive. The current owner has travelled some 5,000 miles in his three years of ownership and he has maintained and improved the condition of the car during this time.
Whilst the car is now an older restoration it remains in excellent condition all round. The opalescent silver grey paint work is bright with only minor stone chips and blemishes evident on a close inspection. The chrome, exterior trim and lenses are also in very good condition as is the glass. The interior is also in very good condition with only the carpets starting to show any sign of wear. The soft top looks to have been hardly used, if ever, and is like new. The engine bay is clean and its presentation is consistent with the rest of the car.
The car has a rare factory hard top (that probably needs to be restored), soft top, tonneau cover and bag, car cover, books and tools.
The car is on full registration in Queensland and is offered for sale with a roadworthy certificate.
Today the odometer reads 16,651 miles.
