1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1½ 4.2 Litre Roadster
Details
The Jaguar E-Type is arguably the greatest sports car ever built. It was announced at the March 1961 Geneva Motor Show and it took the motoring world by storm . . . the car was an absolute sensation! The body styling was simply gorgeous and technologically the E-Type was an engineering masterpiece and it set new standards in all areas.
Whilst automotive styling is somewhat subjective the E-Type is often ranked atop lists of ‘the most beautiful cars’ and in fact it has been described by Enzo Ferrari as the most beautiful car ever made. And it’s not just about the looks as the E-Type is often at the top of other lists such as ‘The best sports car ever built’ or ‘The most significant cars’. It is truly a motoring icon.
As a testament to the success of the E-Type, production evolved through three series from 1961 until 1974 during which time circa 70,000 cars were built.
The Series 1½ 4.2 Litre Roadster is one of the most sought after of the E-Type range, offering the purity of the original design, yet with the improved 4.2 litre six cylinder engine.
Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer this lovely 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1½ 4.2 Litre Roadster.
This particular car was restored some 12 years ago in Melbourne by marque experts and is reputed to have had in excess of $200,000 spent on it back then. The car has been in the custody of a Brisbane based Jaguar enthusiast ever since. It has been regularly used by its previous owner and meticulously maintained by Jaguar specialists regardless of cost.
When restored a number of subtle upgrades and modifications were made to enhance the performance, safety and reliability aspects of the car. These included an immobiliser and car alarm, Becker and Mexico radio/CD player, uprated front disc brakes, a modified cylinder head with series 3 valves, electronic ignition, stainless steel exhaust, 16-inch wire wheels and sway bars.
Although now an older restoration the car still presents beautifully and it drives even better!
The Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirms this a matching numbers example.
The car comes with a rare factory hardtop (with stand), owner’s manual and a jack.
In summary this E-Type is presented in a stunning colour combination that looks just fabulous and more importantly it is a spectacular car to drive.
