Recreation of a 1952 Mercedes Benz (Type W194) 300SL Gullwing Prototype

Details

We have just consigned this sensational Recreation of a 1952 Mercedes Benz (Type W194) 300SL Gullwing Prototype project.

This car is one of three chassis’ built in exacting duplication of the original Prototype 300 SL by Sleeping Beauties in Brisbane, a company renowned for its Mercedes Benz expertise and for exhibiting high quality restored cars at Pebble Beach. Of the three chassis built (all in chrome moly) only one car has thus far been completed. The car we have for sale is being sold on behalf of a deceased estate and was not completed.

The car is being sold as a rolling chassis complete with correct 300 SL running gear and suspension. A timber body buck built in the same manner as the original body bucks was used to complete the first running vehicle which is now in the US and this buck forms part of the package available for sale.  An alloy body built in individual panel form by well known 300 SL restorer Scott Grundfor in the USA forms the final piece of the package.

The new owner may chose to complete the car with the body supplied (and perhaps in roadster form similar to the famed John Fitch car) or alternatively build a new body identical to that shown on the completed car using the body buck supplied.

There is a comprehensive file which would greatly assist any purchaser in completing the project.

Please note that the car we are offering for sale is NOT completed and it is supplied as a rolling chassis, with a body that needs completing and a body buck.

Price on application.

*** Please note the photograph of the completed car is shown for information only to give prospective buyers an idea of what this car may look like when finished ***
