1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder
The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona is one of the most beautiful cars ever built and is today highly sought after by Ferrari collectors and enthusiasts all over the world.
First shown at the 1968 Paris Auto Salon the Daytona was Ferrari’s replacement for the very successful 275 series cars, and ultimately the 275 GTB/4.
The Daytona name was planned to be used by Enzo Ferrari for his latest Berlinetta in honour of his company’s great Victory and 1-2-3 finish at the Daytona 24 hour race in 1967. The name was supposedly leaked to the public which annoyed Ferrari so he formally dropped the Daytona name for the traditional Ferrari alpha numeric nomenclature. However, the name stuck and is now synonymous with the ultimate road going front engined V12 Ferrari.
In total just over 1,400 Daytonas were built from 1968 – 1973 of which circa 120 were the desirable Spyders. They were so sought after that in the late 1970’s early 1980’s that a number of different companies converted Daytona Coupes to Spyders. Two of the more well known and recognised companies undertaking the conversions were Straman and Autokraft.
We are delighted to offer this wonderful 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder by Autokraft. This particular car, being chassis number 16583 was delivered new to England on the 23rd May 1973 to a Mr John F.P Tate and was registered as JOW 556L. Its second owner was the Earl of Mexborough who commissioned the Spyder conversion by Autoktaft. In the early 1990’s the car then found its way to Japan until it was purchased by its fourth and current owner back in August 2003.
Having travelled only 47,413 miles from new the car today presents and drives fabulously. The car does get regularly driven, however, its presentation is such that it be welcome at any concours d’elegance or classic car show. The paint work, chrome and brightwork are all excellent as is the interior and presentation of the engine bay. Running Borrani wires wheels on period correct Michelin XWX tyres the car sits and drives correctly. Everything works as it should and the car is incredibly tight on the road.
The original owners manual, warranty card and stereo instruction booklet (in the Ferrari pouch), jack and accompanying accessories (in the correct Ferrari roll) and a set of traditional Ferrari Cromodora wheels also accompany the car.
Daytonas are becoming quite rare in this country and Spyders more so, hence, this car presents a unique opportunity.
